Peeling Fruit in Front of Strangers

Peeling Fruit in Front of Strangers
was created during the Covid-19 pandemic, in the early spring of 2020, amid the first lockdown—a moment of abrupt stillness and the disruption of familiar life. This global crisis exposed deep vulnerabilities within our system(s), prompting urgent questions about their long-term sustainability. It stirred a profound sense of uncertainty in me, as it did for many others. This period was also marked by a renewed turn toward nature and an intensified confrontation with existential questions—about life, identity, and the fragility of our routines. These themes resonate throughout the work. As a collaborative piece, it captures the shared experience of waiting and pausing—laden with the fears of illness, death, and violence, yet also charged with the potential for transformation and renewal.
