Bodies of Discourse is a series of critical visuals developed for the electronic music festival Nachtdigital in Olganitz in 2017. The work was presented during one night on a large semicircular screen.
Moving beyond the decorative role of club visuals, the project presents textual and visual interventions that critically examine structures within club and music culture — and beyond — addressing issues such as white supremacy, queerwashing, and the systemic marginalization of women, inter, non-binary, trans, and agender people.
The visuals combine self-written slogans — such as Simply Straight, Holistic Body Capital, and Queer Unique Selling Points — with found footage from the internet. Following the tradition of live VJ practice, text fragments, symbols, and video elements are continuously recombined, creating constantly shifting constellations of meaning.
